Extend the Afram River Bridge project to benefit Afram Plains North

Betty Krosby Mensah, the Member of Parliament for the Kwahu Afram Plains North Constituency in the Eastern Region, has pleaded with the Minister for Roads and Highways and Parliament Select Committee on Roads to consider extending the Afram River Bridge Project to benefit the people of Afram Plains North.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament in Thursday, February 3, 2022, on a report on an approved commercial and credit facility agreement for the designing and construction of a bridge over the River Afram, the MP made it known that, it’s sad to realised that, the good people of Afram Plains North were not captured in the report.

“However Mr. Speaker, I want to also draw the committees attention to the fact that, one of the oldest Districts, which happens to be the Afram Plains North, has unfortunately not been captured in the report. I want to use this opportunity to plead with the Minister and the committee on roads to see how best they can extend this facility so that the good people of Afram Plains North, thus the people from Agordeke to Donkorkrom, could also benefit from this huge project” the MP said.

The Honourable Member of Parliament for the Mpreaso Constituency, Davis Ansah Opoku, in a Facebook post, indicated the approval of the facility by the finance committee of Parliament. He was quick to add how beneficiary the project would be to the Kwahu enclave if finally completed.

“The Finance Committee of Parliament has just approved a commercial and credit facility agreement to design and construct Adawso-Ekye Amanfrom Bridge and Associated roads.

The 3 Kilometre Bridge, the fifth-longest in Africa when completed, will have two lanes with a walkway and a service lane” he stated.

The bridge is expected to stretch from Adawso to Ekye Amanfrom, all in the Afram Plains South District.

The people of Afram Plains, in the Eastern Region, always have to resort to the use of ferry to cross the river, which has always been delaying transportation to and fro the place.
